Chance the Rapper and fiancee seek modification

Texas music fans might be aware of the long relationship between Chance the Rapper and his fiancee, Kirsten Corley. The pair began dating in 2013 and split in 2016 before getting back together. While they were split apart, Corley filed a child custody and support petition. The couple has now returned to court to modify the court's orders ahead of their upcoming nuptials.

According to news sources, the couple filed a motion to modify their 2017 settlement of child custody and child support issues. The couple filed the motion on Jan. 29 with a hearing set for Feb. 14. The document states that there has been a substantial change in their circumstances and that the orders are no longer in their child's best interests.

While it is unclear from news sources when the couple got back together, Chance the Rapper, whose real name is Chancellor Bennett, reportedly proposed to Corley on July 18, 2018, during a family barbecue. The judge is expected to grant the couple's motion to modify their court orders.

Child custody and support decisions are made in the best interests of the child. In cases in which there are substantial changes in circumstances after the orders have been issued, one or both parties are able to file motions with the courts to modify them. People who have experienced substantial changes to the degree that their orders no longer work might benefit by consulting with experienced family law attorneys in order to learn how best to proceed.
