"Grey's Anatomy" actor reaches custody agreement

Texas television fans may be interested to learn that it has been reported that Jesse Williams, an actor who stars in "Grey's Anatomy", and his former wife have reached an agreement with regards to the custody of their children. According to reports, the two parents will share joint legal custody of their son and daughter. There was no mention of any physical custody arrangement.

News of their impending divorce became known in April 2017. Although the initial breakup appeared to be amicable, it appears that the divorce itself has not been, particularly when it comes to dealing with the child custody dispute. The soon-to-be ex-wife initially claimed that the children were "emotionally compromised" when in the care of their father due to his alleged violent temper. Williams responded that there was no truth to these statements.

As part of the agreement, neither parent is allowed to make disparaging remarks about the other parent in front of the children. Further, the children can not be used as messengers. It was also noted that the agreement included a stipulation stating that neither parent could introduce the children to a new romantic partner until the relationship has lasted at least six months.

When divorcing parents cannot come to an agreement regarding how they will deal with these types of issues, a custody dispute can arise. Because it is important for children to have the opportunity to have relationships with both parents, it is often in their best interests for the parents to come together and negotiate a parenting plan. A family law attorney could assist with the negotiations, particularly if the parents have difficulty coming to an accord on their own.
